Hello! This year's round is a little late and a little sudden because I've been super busy. In order to bring you a round of the exchange, I've teamed up with a couple mods from the /r/NarutoFanficiton Discord server. All information and announcements will be shared on both this Dreamwidth comm and on Discord, so either platform will work for exchange participants.

If you would like exchange updates to be emailed to you, you can either get a free Dreamwidth account and subscribe to the comm or you can use this comm's RSS feed and a third party website like blogtrottr or ifttt.

General Information

This is a gift exchange for Naruto. Not everyone will have done a gift exchange before, so here's a very short explanation that's elaborated on in the rules:

Participants who sign up will produce a fanwork for someone, and someone else will make a fanwork for them! You will probably not create for the same person you write for. Who you are creating for is a secret until authors are revealed.

We will be matching on Naruto subfandoms (for example: Naruto or Boruto) as well as relationships/characters (for example: Akimichi Chouji/Nara Shikamaru, Akimichi Chōji & Nara Shikamaru, or Solo: Nara Shikamaru) and medium (fanfiction or fanart).

This means you will both request and offer combinations of fandoms, relationships/characters, and mediums. Your gift will match one of your requests and your assigned recipient's request will match one of your offers.

Requests also have "DNWs" or "Do Not Wants", which is a list of things that the creator is not allowed to include in the gift.

Fandoms, relationships, and characters need to be put into the tag set during a process called "nominations" (because you are nominating tags for us to approve!) so that when we sign up and then run matching we all have tags that will work with AO3's matching algorithm.

Rules

1. We expect all exchange participants to be civil about ships, differing headcanons, etc. Don't be a jerk, you know? We believe in you. Any participant who cannot meet this basic requirement or who otherwise harasses their fellow participants will have their sign up deleted (if it's before assignments go out) or be banned from future rounds (if it's after sign-ups have gone out).

2. If you sign up and complete your assignment, you will receive a gift; if we do not have a main gift for everyone, we will hold the exchange until everyone has their gift.

3. Do Not Wants (DNWs) included in participants' AO3 signups must be respected for all gifts and treats. Do not use DNWs to box your creator in, and please feel free to run your DNWs by one of the Exchange Helpers if you're unsure.

4. If you default after the default deadline (September 15th), you will owe a makeup work to the collection before the next round begins.

5. Commenting is not required but it is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED. Please at least say "thank you" to the creator(s) who made gift(s) for you! It's polite and easy. If you receive a gift that breaks the rules, please contact me ASAP.

6. Participants shouldn't talk about their assignment publicly or contact their recipient directly because it risks de-anonymizing the creator and/or letting the recipient know what their gift will be about. "Publicly" includes in Discord servers! Please contact the mods to reach your recipient if you need clarification, or you want to ask if they're okay with something.

7. The final gift must be a complete story of at least 750 words (no upper limit). Fanart must be a complete and finished original piece (no photo editing, moodboards, manipulations, etc.)

How to participate

1. Read the rules above, obviously, and if you have more questions please visit the FAQ. If you are still unsure about something, leave a comment here or ask us on Discord!
2. Go to the tagset and check if the relationships you want are already listed under the subfandom you want them in. For example, if you like Sai/Ino but aren't interested in receiving Boruto fanworks, you should make sure that Sai/Ino is listed under the Naruto fandom. You will need at least 3 non-crossover relationships!
3. If all of the relationships you want aren't already listed, you will need to nominated — this just means you will read the Nomination Guidelines and then submit your tags to the tagset for us to approve. We can't tell who's nominated what and we won't judge your nominated ships — we will just make sure they're formatted correctly so that the tagset will work with AO3's matching system.
4. Come back between June 25 and July 9 to fill out your sign up form using tags listed in the tagset. We will have more detailed instructions both here on Dreamwidth and on the sign up form on AO3.
